Telehandler certification programs are offered in two forms: at a training facility; at the trainee's job site. With the former option, the manufacturer could work with a licensing agency to bring individuals to a training facility. This alternative provides those training with the chance to learn to utilize the machines in a controlled environment. When completed, participants are given a certification or license to use this kind of equipment.

With the latter option, a trained instructor is sent to a work location to be able to provide on-location training.
